Content Writing: Know Your Audience

When contents are written from the perspective of promoting a website in search engines, then it is considered a kind of writing associated with SEO/Search Engine Optimization. Such kind of writing is search-engine-pleasing. This is because of the reason that much of SEO content writing is promotional-sounding advertisement than being informative for audiences/web-readers.

Having said that, the audience is (unfortunately) given secondary importance in SEO writing.

Most writers do not understand that SEO content writing or any type of writing is never devoid of the one and only key thing – the audience!

I’ve got this intuitive feel that content writing has changed drastically from the last few years. For example, there was a time when SEO content writing was entirely keywords-specific. Stuffing keywords was the common practice maintained by the then writers (sadly, some still follow that trend). Now, quality is one of the most important factors in content writing.

However, I must say it’s not the quality alone, the understanding audience for which a writer writes, is also very, a very important factor to consider.

Why the audience matters?

If you’re writing something on the subject of health without working hard on who you write for, then believe me, that article/blog of yours will not catch the attention of readers looking for an article on the subject of electronic gadgets.

To put it simply, an article on “Health benefits of eating an apple” is useless for the audience looking for “Dell Inspiron Laptop 15” reviews” OR “How to improve content writing skill”. Similarly, contents for an automobile website are not useful for the website having business in stock exchange. Means, you're not here to please everyone!

Therefore, prioritize your audience, as this counts.

Before you start writing, make sure who you write for. It will help you gather quality audiences – those, who are related to the information that you are offering through your writing. Knowing the audience always makes a difference between the quantum of readers and quality of readers.
